Ross Burgess

BURGESS, ROSS - 85, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Smiths Falls, Ont., to Melvin and Clara (Phillips) Burgess, the family moved to Montreal, Que., in the 30s. After finishing high school, Ross served in the RCAF from 1943-45 as a pilot. He met his future wife after the war and they married in September, 1947. Ross graduated from Sir George Williams University (now Concordia) in Montreal in 1950 with a degree in commerce. He worked for Canada Cement (Lafarge) for many years in Montreal, but he was happy to be transferred to Halifax in the early 70s. While living in Montreal, he enjoyed weekends gliding at the flying club in Hawkesbury, Ont. After retirement, Ross joined his wife, Terri, at Burgess Travel Ltd. and travelled the world, exploring out-of-the-way places. He particularly enjoyed Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Burma. He spent the last two winters travelling with family in Argentina. Over the years Ross has enjoyed his time at the Halifax Curling Club, the Saraguay and The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron and his Monday luncheons at the RA Park Officers' Mess with his veteran buddies. ... He was predeceased by sisters, Constance Robinson and Helene Scott. Ross was a kind and generous man with a wonderful sense of humour. He will be sadly missed. Cremation has taken place. ...
