Looking for info re possible 1st marriage of Diana SMITH dau of Humphrey & Lurena SMITH of Wolford Twp to a man named FULLER; later mar to Benjamin BARBER.
Family story: Almeda CHURCH grdau of Diana SMITH & Benjamin BARBER talked about Auntie HUTTON of Ross or Horton in Renfrew Co., who has been identified as Rosanna Almeda FULLER wife of George E. HUTTON (son of John HUTTON & Tabitha HASKINS).
Prior to mar to George HUTTON she was mar to Willard PALMER who is said to have drowned in Ottawa River. Almeda & Willard PALMER were mar 6 Oct 1835 by Wes Meth minister Rev Wm Brown with wit Wm. B. Putnam & Benjamin Barber.
Humphrey SMITH & family in Montague census 1804 & 1805, Wolford census 1806 & 1807. Daughters Diana est b ca 1794, and Rhoda b ca 1804.
1813 census of Wolford lists Humphrey's wife Lurena SMITH as head of family with 1 male & 1 female child - Rhoda ca age 9; Diana would have been 19 & not at home.
1812 census of E'town lists Andrew FULLER with 1 male & 2 females in household & 1813 census of Wolford lists Diana FULLER as head of household with 1 female child.
Thad Leavitt in "The History of Leeds & Grenville" tells of Andrew FULLER who reported for military duty at Belleville at the outbreak of the War of 1812 but was shot by his sergeant when he attempted to leave to return to his family.
The theory is that Diana SMITH mar Andrew FULLER ca 1811 when 18 yrs of age, moved to E'town & had dau named Almeda; after Andrew's death in summer of 1812 she mvd back to Wolford to be near her parents where she mar Benjamin BARBER & had son Benjamin who was wit at Almeda's mar to Willard PALMER. Need info to prove or disprove this theory.
