John Weekes was a farmer. In 1881 he had the contract to draw the mail. John was a trustee of the Methodist Church in 1885. The South Elmsley map of 1891 shows John's land at the north end of Lot 16, Concession I. He was a member of Orange Lodge #90, and served on the committee that built the new Orange Hall in 1909. In 1928, he bought the parsonage across from the Methodist Church in Lombardy. (Descendents occupied this house until the 1960s when it was demolished as part of an ill-fated highway improvement project.) In 1928, assisted by Richard Strikefoot, he devised a snow plow that cleaned the Lombardy village sidewalks.
